A new supplier of total security emerges in Finland following Viria’s consolidation of its subsidiaries

Viria is a forerunner in corporate security that combines digital and physical security services.

Viria LAN&WAN Oy and Viria Securi Oy, the Group’s subsidiaries that already have a proven track record in information security and security technology, merged on 1 June 2018. The name of the new company will be Viria Security Ltd.

“We only have one security that comprises both security systems and cyber security. Both are needed for securing people, information or property, as the case may be. When data networks and digital services play an increasing more important role in companies, security is increasingly online-based as well. However, this does not eliminate the importance of locking and surveillance systems. Even network-based attacks may involve a physical element, such as intrusion to business premises. On the other hand, there are examples of how an unprotected surveillance camera has provided access to the company’s internal network,” says Marko Järvinen, CEO of Viria Security.

Currently, companies frequently manage physical and digital security as separate entities, with information management assuming responsibility for information security and property manager assuming responsibility for camera surveillance and access control. The online integration of security systems calls for secure network solutions that are best suited to the company’s operations. Some companies have already noticed the considerable benefits that result from their integrated management. Effectiveness and response speed will increase when the situation picture of different security systems can be viewed on one’s own terminal in real time, for example, and managed remotely.

Viria also helps its customers to utilise the information obtained from security systems in their business. For example, by combining the information provided by the in-store camera surveillance with the data obtained from the point-of-sale systems, the merchant may utilise this information in the planning of the product range and targeting of marketing measures.

“In hospitals, there is a lot of interest in the use of systems primarily developed for personal security and the information they collect for other purposes as well, such as locating devices and improving the customer experience. Similar solutions are also provided in assisted living facilities, where they can be used for providing the elderly with support in living in their own home. It is great to have an opportunity to support such reforms that also have societal significance,” Marko Järvinen says.

Following the establishment of Viria Security, Viria also unifies its brands. The old Securi and LAN&WAN names will be replaced by the Viria brand that will also be used when referring to the Group as a whole. The other Viria companies include Bitfactor, Tansec, Hibox and Sappa.

“Viria Security will become the greatest company of our Group, and it will play a crucial role in the implementation of our strategy. We want to be a pioneer in the creation of new kinds of concepts for securing and developing the operation of companies and organisations. We see great potential in all this, both in Finland and internationally,” says Mika Vihervuori, CEO of the Viria Group.
